Application of polyacrylamide in cement
Improve workability
Polyacrylamide has good dissolubility and thickening property, which could improve the viscosity of cement slurry. The cement slurry could maintain good uniform state during stirring and using process. Polyacrylamide could prevent cement particle separating and sedimenting, thus improving workability of cement. Cement will be easier for operation like: pumping, placing, plastering and etc.
Improve water-retaining property
Polyacrylamide could adsorb on the surface of cement particle, forming a layer of water-retaining film that reduce evaporation and loss of water. This could help retain water during hydration of cement and is beneficial for the full hydration. The strength and durability of cement stone could be improved. This water-retaining property will be more important in dry or high temperature construction environment.
Improve strength
The active group on the polyacrylamide molecular chain can chemically react with the minerals in the cement to generate some gelling substances, which can fill the pores of the cement stone and make the structure of the cement stone denser. The mechanical properties like compressive strength and bending strength of cement product could be improved.
Water reducing
As a highly efficient water reducing agent, polyacrylamide can be adsorbed on the surface of cement particles. The surface of cement particles has same charge, generate electrostatic repulsion, so that the cement particles are dispersed with each other. Water wrapped by cement particles are released. The water consumption and the water-cement ratio are reduced, while the fluidity of cement slurry is not affected. The strength and durability of cement products are improved.
Crack suppression
Polyacrylamide can improve the toughness and deformation resistance of cement matrix. In the process of cement hardening, due to water evaporation, temperature changes and other factors, internal stress will generate, which could lead to the generation of crack. With polyacrylamide, cement matrix could withstand a certain tensile stress with its own flexibility and cohesiveness. The generation and extension of crack will be inhibited and the crack suppression property of cement structure is improved.
